1850 |
Plot of land bought from William Waring Percy by
William Naylor with a condition of sale not to
build a brewery, chemical works or any similar
business which could be considered a nuisance to
the neighbourhood. Mr Naylor built a house on the
plot. |
1858 |
House sold to Hugh Warton. |
1860 |
House sold to Charles Woodward |
1875 |
Bought by the innkeeper William Furnivall with four
houses, one of which was used as a beerhouse.

1878 |
Sold to the Bedford Brewery and Malting Company.
The name Union Vaults first appeared in a mortgage
this year.

1894 |
Plans by Bedford Brewery for the abatement of
nuisances were approved.

1902 |
Bedford Brewery and Malting Company renamed to
George Shaw and Company.
|
1923 |
Greenall Whitley and Company bought out George Shaw
and Company and therefore acquired the Union Vaults.

1936 |
Greenall's received approval for alterations and
additions, including the rebuilding of water closets
and coal shed.
|
1961 |
Issued with a wine and spirit license.
|
1996 |
Renamed to The Union Tavern.
